Jarvix’s Big 50: The Best Local Music of 2018

Hey y’all!

This is Evan Jarvicks, aka Jarvix, aka Make Oklahoma Weirder’s Chief Executive Weirdo. Pleased to see ya, and welcome to this year’s Big 50!

There’s a dedicated page for explaining the Big 50 now, so I don’t have to spend as many words explaining what the heck a Big 50 is. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the link.

As some of you may know, this is a yearly countdown that I started a couple of years ago when I wrote for Cellar Door Music Group. Since then, I’ve only gotten bigger and bigger with it, so now, instead of just a comprehensive summary of my choices for the best original local music, I basically do full reviews for each of the 50 artists that I choose. It’s exhausting, but I think it does the work more justice.

Y’all, there was so much good music to choose from this year. After listening to hundreds of local releases, it was as hard as it’s ever been to narrow it all down to the 10 singles, 20 EPs, and 20 LPs that I ended up selecting. If you think there’s an album or single that deserved recognition but didn’t get it here, please, leave us a comment sharing your thoughts! I’d love to hear what you would have picked.

As always, some of my picks are NSFW, so use your discretion if that kinda thing is gonna bother ya. There are a few death metal entries this year, so you’ve been warned.

With that said, let’s go! Use the buttons above or below to navigate my Big 50 of 2018.

Thanks again for dropping by and for showing interest in Oklahoma’s local music scene. We all really do appreciate your involvement.

Cheers & Happy Holidays,

Jarvix
